Max McRae is a British rally driver competing in the British Rally Championship in a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2.
Born in 2004 and based in Dunfermline, he is the son of Alister McRae, the nephew of Colin McRae and the grandson of Jimmy McRae - and the third generation of the family to rally at national level.
He contested a full British Rally Championship season in 2026 and has won at British championship level, taking his first BRC overall event victory on the Cambrian Rally in October 2025.
Max McRae grew up in a family whose name is inseparable from British rallying.
His grandfather Jimmy McRae was a multiple British Rally Championship title winner. His father Alister McRae competed at world championship level and won the British Rally Championship. His uncle Colin McRae became world rally champion in 1995.
The family's record at British championship level is one of the longest-running in the sport, and Max's generation is the third to compete in it.
Max has spoken about what the name means to him: "I can assure you that there is a lot more to come from me."
"Carrying the McRae name forward of course brings some pressure, but it's an awesome privilege and I love meeting so many fans and learning things about my dad, uncle and gramps."
"But now I've won a few events I feel like I've started to make more of a name for myself in my own right and that's important."
Max’s goal in 2026 is to challenge for the British Rally Championship title.
Once again driving the Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 and with co-driver Cameron Fair sitting alongside, a combination of machinery and talent that has already yielded success, Max believes he has the package to etch his name in the history books alongside his family.
He won Rally North Wales in March 2026 - becoming the fourth member of his family to win the event.
He also won the Borders Competitions Jim Clark Rally in the Scottish Borders on 22-23 May 2026.
At the Voly Grampian Forest Rally in August 2026 he finished on the podium in second place in the BRC after battling back from multiple punctures.
In 2025, Max contested key events in both the British Rally Championship and the European Rally Championship.
His results showed he had the speed to take the fight to rivals with far more experience - taking his first overall BRC win in the season finale at the Cambrian Rally.
He also beat a cast of motorsport stars to win the McRae Rally Challenge at Knockhill Circuit, Scotland, in September 2025 - a special victory for obvious reasons.
After honing his talents in karting and junior race categories, in 2024 Max followed his destiny by taking on selected rounds of the British Rally Championship and the Junior European Rally Championship in a Peugeot 208 Rally4 alongside co-diver Cameron Fair.
He won the J-ERC class at V-Híd Rally Hungary in April 2024.
He also took a win in the J-ERC class at JDS Machinery Rally Ceredigion in September 2024.
Max finished the season on a high by finishing on the podium at Rally Silesia - Rajd Śląska in October 2024, then finished second overall and first of the 2WD runners at Lincoln Electric Rally of the Tall Pines in November 2024.

"This is still only my third year rallying full time, and I've done fewer rallies in my entire career than some guys have done in the past couple of seasons, so it's really exciting to know there's still a lot more to do.
"I've loved the opportunities I've had so far, but I really believe my story in rallying is only just getting started." - Max McRae, March 2026
